Buzzalope

Seriously. Look at the faux antennae/antlers. Looking forward to this geranium blooming again.

More flurries today. Just swirling around, not sticking. Thought the light and weather might be great yesterday to go photograph wild mustangs on the west desert yesterday. Roads thick with mud and the sun blasting down. Go figure ;). Great to get out and shoot, though. Hoping to do that closer to home – with bees – soon.

In Flight in the Russian Sage

Woke up to snow on the ground today…with the wind still enthusiastic. A bit cooler than normal around here for this time of year. So much blooming now, too, that I (and the bees, it seems) miss for photos.

But…this is a fun one from last summer. That wing blur is neat. And it will warm eventually. Enjoy!

It’s Still Spring!

Got back late last night from a stupid-long trip to an art festival in Fountain Hills, Arizona. Went really well. Great response. Seems lots of people think bees are wallworthy and do make good art. I think so, too.

Anyway, I went from high 90s there to 40 degrees here and the wind is gusting to at least 40 mph here today so…guessing I won’t be able to shoot and post any fresh shots. So you get pollenface on a crocus from late March of this year. The wing blur is great in this one. Maybe some fresh stuff tomorrow. Lots of tulips (among many, many other things) in bloom right now. Everything seems to fire and fade so quickly in the spring.

Interesting Depth on a Pretty Wrecked Cone Flower

Posting a few days in advance. Heading out to Fountain Hills, AZ for the art festival there.

This pic tickles me some. The flower is a mess, but it is still opening up in the middle and throwing pollen. So…if you have these, don’t deadhead them until the bees are done with them. Really an odd thing because they keep providing pollen long after the petals have started to look nasty. You know there’s a lesson in that…

Neat Profile on a Sunflower

Posting a few days in advance. Heading out to Fountain Hills, AZ for the art festival there.

Great pollen on a September sunflower. Color of the yellow seems a little wonky to me, but I’m admittedly a little colorblind. The sunflowers are volunteering all over the place. Some getting culled, some getting left. They tend to wander well. And they self-hybridize, too. So it’s interesting to see the new blossoms. Especially when they keep some of that recessive red.

A Bit Late – in the Hyacinths

Here’s a pretty girl buzzing about in the hyacinths. Think this might be only my second shot on those. As pretty as they are, either the bees aren’t that fond of them or my timing has been abysmal.

Speaking of that, got out today about 3pm and couldn’t find bees. Strange. There were a few on an ornamental cherry in the backyard, but I’m not confident that I got even one reasonable shot. Wondering if there are fruit trees blooming elsewhere drawing the bees. Warm enough. Anyway, hyacinth from yesterday. She’s cute!
