I read an article once arguing that cameras are inherently racist. While I won’t speak to that, it sure is hard to get the center of the sunflower to pop without blowing out the sky and the petals. That said, it’s a pretty iconic shot for Summer at this place. The bumble is a Brown-belted.
Another one that just says Summertime! From July of 2018. Like the cloud. Almost looks like a cartoon background. The bumbles are Brown-belted.
This is one of my all-time favorite bumble shots. It’s a Brown-belted on a Cone Flower. I think one of the compelling things about it is its left, back leg. Clearly helpful. Maybe like those jacks out of the cherry-picker trucks – stability? Anyway, I like the way the bee mirrors the shape of the middle of the flower. And that the focus is so much on the bee. The whole think kind of radiates.
Brown-belted bumble in profile. Again from Red Butte Garden. Bee seems very intent in this one. Oblivious to me.
Another messy one. Delights me to see that pollen everywhere.
The sunflower is a little blown out – that blasting light – but the bee looks great. Such a neat shape.
Seems familiar. Pollenface.
Mini-squadron of what I think are Brown-belteds on a sunflower. A bit of a jaunty shot with the lines of the house on it… But the bees don’t seem to mind.
