While you cannot tell, this is a metallic green one. So covered in pollen, too. And a great look at the tongue and mandibles. Firsts are fun. And the catmint has started to come into its own again. Had some great looks at this little bee, but my camera froze up and had a remove-the-battery reset. Germane to nothing, but a reminder that things mechanical (and electronic) are part of the process – and something I usually take for granted. So I sat and watched this little one until she was finished and flew away before I started fiddling with/fixing the camera. Lesson in there somewhere, I guess.
What a hackneyed phrase. Yet it does. This is in the iris shot from today. Smaller than a grain of rice right now…but they’re starting. Those holes you see are the beginnings of the destruction they will wreak all through the summer. Need some Nolo Bait STAT.
Nice look at in-flight over the iris. So so so so so so many in bloom right now. Not easy to find bees on them, but love it when I do. Pay special attention to the spot just behind and under her. Out of focus here, but you’ll see it in the bonus (posting next).
