Might Have Posted Something Similar to this Earlier

But even if I did…it might not hurt to see similar again. Really a stunning shot. Love the eye and the mandibles. And that flower has fast become one of my favorites. Ugh, though, looks like there’s a bit of something on the sensor. Ignore that little smudge and focus on the bee. Hmmm…there might be a lesson in that ;).

Russian Sage Overload

Been up since 2:00 a.m. working on art stuff. Thinking a respite is in order soon. Hoping, anyway. So, before I forget, here’s today’s bee. Fantastic bumble (check out that tongue!) departing a blossom on the Russian Sage. It’s generally impossible for me to tell if they’re approaching or leaving. But I do remember this shot – this one backing out. Pretty stalk, too, on this one. And that’s not something I necessarily notice when I look at the plant. They’re big…with scores if not hundreds of stalks…so I tend to see the bush rather than the individual parts that make the bush. Rambling again… Lots of talk about the “third eye”. Wonder if my camera is mine.

Just Another on the Russian Sage

Pretty typical honeybee on the Russian Sage. Looking at this, I thought, “there’s nothing very special about this shot”. And then I realized that “nothing special” here is quite a thing. Something this lovely and detailed (talking about the bee and the blossoms) and glorious is somewhat “meh” to me…makes me realize how fortunate I am to think this pedestrian. And I’m not talking about the photography itself – but nature. Intricate, beautiful, timeless nature. What a thrilling thing to be in a world where this is every day.

Great Look at Her Wings on the Blanket Flower

Don’t always get a good look at the second pair of wings, but they look good in this shot. Pollen on her eye, too. And fun composition. The last few have been really good shots!

Hung a 40″x60″ print today. Looks fantastic! Hoping you’ll all come by and check out the gallery when you’re in Utah. Great bees…and other stuff, too. Pics coming…

Upside-down Seems to Fit!

About five minutes to midnight. Was working like mad trying to get the gallery ready for next week’s opening. I’ll post some info and pics as the date nears (and it’s nearing). Came back to get this one in under the wire. And what a fun pic it is! It’s a bumble (I think it’s a golden bumble) on one of the bee-created (they pollinate and seed) sunflowers that wanders from year to year. One of my favorite flowers of the later season. This one really tickles me.

Been noticing on my photos that I really do violate one of the rules of photography – “don’t have the foreground out of focus”. Yet that seems to be a signature of mine. Not only is it hard not to do with bees, but I think it really adds to the effect of the photo – the art of it. In this one, the part of the flower on top of the photo is nearest…and out of focus. The part of the flower that’s farthest is there behind the bee…and the bee and the middle of the flower is in focus. And it’s a great effect. Can’t imagine this shot any other way. Ooh…two minutes… Publish!
